Strathcona County's Celebration of Lights

Sunday, Nov 29, 2020 at 5:00PM

Strathcona County’s annual holiday season kick-off, Celebration of Lights, is back with a special winter wonderland drive-thru event on Sunday, November 29 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The drive-thru experience provides a safe way for the community to gather and enjoy holiday lights, entertainment, and a chat with Santa from the comfort and safety of their vehicles. Drive-thru activities will take place near the Community Centre in Sherwood Park, with vehicles moving along Festival Way, in the Festival Place parking lot, and on Festival Lane.

For safety reasons, the festival is drive-thru only; no foot traffic will be permitted. Attendees must stay in their vehicle.

This year’s Celebration of Lights will feature a light show and LED Christmas tree, live entertainment, a live nativity scene, fire dancing, appearances from Santa and The Grinch, and a Santa letter mailbox for pre-written letters. Celebration of Lights is free, however attendees are asked to share the holiday spirit by bringing a monetary or non-perishable food donation for the Strathcona Food Bank.

At home activities will also be available the week leading up to Celebration of Lights including crafts, games, a Santa letter template, and Santa’s favourite holiday recipe. Residents can also pick up a free cookie decorating kit from Sobeys Lakeland and Nottingham (Sherwood Park). Sobeys cookie decorating kits will be available on November 27, 28 and 29 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., or until supplies last.

To keep the flow of traffic moving on November 29, the north section of Festival Avenue will be closed to all traffic and Brentwood Blvd north will be open, for Centre in the Park resident or employee access only, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.
