The Jessica Martel Memorial Foundation (JMMF) is pleased to
announce a partnership with the Ignore no More movement. With the opening of Jessie’s House on the horizon, we are
continuing to honour Jessica’s memory and raise funds with our Memorial Run fundraiser which has continued to grow in
popularity.
The Ignore No More Run in Memory of Jessica Martel which will take place on Sunday, June 21, 2020 has become a
virtual event this year due to COVID-19. Participants are asked to run, walk, or move for at least 29 minutes to raise
awareness about the upcoming opening of Jessie’s House, collect pledges to support its operation and honour Jessica’s
memory.
“COVID-19 has presented many challenges to us. But, we are forging ahead with Jessie’s House opening in the coming
weeks. Jessie’s Run is as much a way for us to celebrate our collective achievements as it to raise some much-needed
funds and continue to remember Jessica.”, said Teena Hughson, Community Engagement Coordinator.
This year marks the first year the event has been rebranded as the Ignore No More Run in Memory of Jessica Martel.
“Our partnership with the Ignore No More is a natural one. While we know shelters are desperately needed, we also
realize we can’t eliminate family violence without preventative efforts and education.”, said Hughson.
On April 29, 2009 Jessica's life was tragically cut short by family violence. This spring, however, brings new hope the with
opening of Jessie's House. In the coming weeks, families and individuals of any age or gender, will have access to the
safety, hope and healing Jessica never had with the opening of Jessie’s House.
